Sneak Peak ;)

Hi Everyone,

Forgive me for this late post; I’m not feeling well ?so I’ve been sleeping all day, trying to get some rest. Please pray for me?

My physically state kinda got the best of me, as a result, I didn’t prepare anything for this week. BUT because, I don’t want you all thinking, I didn’t come through for you this week, (someone just told me my blog posts make her Tuesdays), I’ve decided to share with you all, the first chapter of my second book.

Disclaimer: This is still a work in progress!!!!!! I honestly haven’t even reread it yet for typos (so please be kind with your feedback) lol. Without further adieu, I present to you… (I don’t have a name yet lol). ENJOY!!!!

Day 1
Patient Identified
In stable but critical condition

Chidubem: Mehn I’m telling you, this is my best work yet! I swear I get hard thinking about it
Chudi: Focus Dubs! Tell me exactly what happened?
Chidubem: Some guys found a car in a ditch on their way home from the club and stopped to check for survivors. The car was totaled. She was still breathing when they brought her in.
Chudi: Her?
Chidubem: Yes, her! Guy there was blood everywhere. She was pretty fucked up. I was about to leave when I saw them arguing with the clerk on duty about if they could drop the body off or not. We don’t take in DOAs so they were trying to convince her that the girl was alive.

This is another reason why I didn’t go into surgery. I cannot stand hospitals. Especially here in Nigeria. I can’t understand how people could take an oath to protect life but won’t treat in a patient until they’ve received their deposit. What were those guys supposed to do with the body if she was dead? I can’t wait to bring this up to father during –

Chidubem: Chudi!?! Are you listening?
Chudi: Guy cut to the chase! What’s the damage?
Chidubem: Severe damage to the temporal lobe and hippocampus. It took hours to clean out and it was touch and go for a while. But she’s tough so she came through. There were no seizures we can rule out epilepsy for now. We honestly won’t know the extent of the damage until she’s conscious.

We were at the door to the OR when I noticed it got quiet. Noticeably so. When I looked at Chidubem, I notice the smug look he had when he met me outside the hospital was replaced with one I can’t place. Like he was trying to say something but he couldn’t.

Chudi: Dubs how far? Is this where you tell me she died and all your bragging was for show?
Chidubem: No.. err… it’s not that. See, you know I am supposed to be off duty and this matter no be small thing. And the staff that assisted. Plus admission fee and surgery
Chudi: How much will it cost?
Chidubem: It’s not just that. She’s currently on life support. Equipment is running to keep her alive and you know NEPA and diesel for generators and Buhari
Chudi: How much will it cost for your services so far and to keep her till she gains consciousness?
Chidubem: Guy you know if it’s me-
Chudi: How much?!!

He called out a ridiculous sum that made even me flinch. But this is it. I was about to throw in the towel when Dubem’s call in. Anyone who didn’t believe in God should hear about how He damn near killed a woman to give me a second chance to make history. This is my time and I was going to use whatever it took to get my Prize. A final shut up to dad, all his stupid political friends and everyone else who ever doubted me.

Chidubem: Chukwudi?
Chudi: What are the odds?
Chidubem: That she’ll make it or that she’ll have amnesia?
Chudi: The latter
Chidubem: I’ll say a good 80% she was banged up pretty good

This is it. It’s now or never…

Chudi: Do whatever it takes to make sure she makes it… I got it
