Okay so, last week I decided to shut down my blog.
Writing wasn’t the problem (I write everyday) but I didn’t have the zeal to post anything. People stopped reading my posts. Some read and called me to complain about the content (that’s a story for another day). MANY had opinions on what I should do/write about in order to increase my readership. Eventually blogging became more work with less gratification.
So on Saturday, I told my friend Sommy I was thinking of closing shop.
Sommy: When things like this happen, you have to remember why you started in the first place…
Me: I learn a lot from experiences, personal and/or otherwise and I love to write. I guess I just wanted an avenue to do both. A place I could share my stories, photos, gist, laugh, grow…
Sommy: What’s changed?
Me: It feels like I’m writing to myself and pushed in too many directions. No one reads it! And all the “you should this”, “you should that” is getting to me. I keep thinking about what people what to read instead of focusing on what I want to write.
Sommy: That’s the problem darling! You need to forget what everyone else keeps telling you about how to live your life and run your blog and actually do you!! You need to be your own reason!
Me: O My God… You are so right!
This blog started with gist!
When something happens to me, I tell people. I tell family, friends, coworkers, everyone! We’d laugh, cry but most importantly, we grow. I know how to entertain people with my stories, people could relate to them and it felt good to share. I never want to stop doing that.
So I have decided to be my reason to keep on keeping on.
