Yesterday I was anxious about somethings and found myself feeling some type of way. So I hit up my soulmee (Hi Soulmee!!?) and as always, she made me feel better. As God will have it, at evening mass last night, the gospel was about when Jesus visited Mary and Martha. In case you are not familiar the story, here’s the Cliff notes version:
When Jesus went to visit his friends Mary and Martha, Martha was all over the place, anxiously preparing food, serving and trying to make sure everything was perfect for Jesus while her sister Mary just sat by Jesus listening to Him. Eventually Martha got angry, vented to Jesus and asked Him to tell Mary to help her. Jesus told Martha that she was anxious and worried about many things when she should only needed to be worried about the one and that Mary made the right choice.
During the homily, the Priest said most of us are like Martha and that we rush through life worrying or working towards/waiting for the next best thing that we forget to appreciate the significance of now. We prioritize a lot of the wrong things and put the right things on the back burner. Then He ended his sermon by asking God to teach us to value the gift of the present.
If you are like me and have found yourself worrying about one thing or another that is beyond your control, ask yourself if what you are worrying about is something you can change. If yes, change it. If no, leave it to God, and switch your focus. Remember God is not sleeping and everything will be okay. And then give thanks for that moment because you will never get it back.
May God teach us to value the gift of the present, in Jesus name, Amen. ☺️
As always, thank you so much for reading.
