Hello People,
As promised, below please find some tips on how to stay on top of your goals for 2015 (disclaimer: LONG EMAIL AHEAD)
1. Pray
I believe in God! I know that with God I can and will do all things through Christ, Amen. So begin with prayers. Start by thanking God for this moment. For all the blessings He has given you (known and unknown). Then ask God what He wants to accomplish this year through you. Tell Him what you yourself will like to achieve this year and ask for His guidance. Conclude by saying “not my will but your will be done”.
2. Write you Resolutions down
Yes! WRITE!
Make a list of your goals/dreams for 2015. Don’t hold back.
One of my resolutions this year is to make my first million (in dollars). I don’t know how or when but I wrote it down. I need to renew my American passport immediately so I wrote that down too.
Then cross items off as you accomplish them. It is sweet to cross things off or to check them off as complete. It motivates you to keep going.
3. Strategize
Research/google ways that can help you achieve your goals. There is nothing you want to do that hasn’t been done before. I want a 6-pack/flat stomach so I googled “easiest ways to get a flat stomach”. Have I started doing them? Of course not! BUT at least I know to what they are so I will start tomorrow =D
Tip = Create habits. I want to be healthier this year. One of my resolutions is to take my vitamins. So every morning, before I leave the house for work, I take my vitamins. It takes 21 days to develop a habit (according to google). So if you have a ritual, before you know it, it will become second nature. With time, when you don’t do it, you will feel incomplete.
4. WORK
Nothing will happen until you get up and do the work! All the prayers, to-do lists, and googling of best practicing will not help you. It even says in the Bible somewhere “God helps those who help themselves”. So help yourself and GET TO IT.
5. Track
There is no way to know if u are improving if you don’t know what you started with. When you know what you are doing, you can aim for better. Someone told me her resolution this year is to do better with her finances. I do too, so I created a budget tracker on google sheets.I downloaded the app to my phone so I have it everywhere. It is very plain and straight to the point. I write down how much I spend per day. Example below:
Date Item Amount
1/31/15 Facial Scrub $9.47
Get your Google documents and track yourself. You can also track what you eat, number of squats you do per day… Anything!!
This has also helped me reduce unnecessary spending because every time I remember I have to write down how much I spent on an item, I cringe and drop it.
6. Get a Frientor
A Frientor is someone who will check in on how your resolutions are coming along. The person doesn’t have to be an expert on the subject (like a mentor). He/she just needs to get on your case to make sure you don’t slack.
Tip: Have a frientor per resolution. You can tell Lizzie you want to travel more, Chichi you want to write more, Anthony you want a 6 pack and God you want a husband, LOL. I think this is best because if one person is supposed to stay on you about multiple things, he/she may forget something (I know I would) and that defeats the purpose.
Please note also that as much as this person is there to keep you focus, IT IS STILL YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO STAY ON YOUR MATTER. Ergo, you cannot blame the person if/when the person forgets you and you slack. We all have lives.
7. Discipline Yourself
You cannot serve two masters at a time. Simple!
You will not save enough money for your dream vacation if you keep buying designer handbags or buy everything in Zara because they are on sale. You will not lose weight if you drink only water on tuesday and eat your entire kitchen on wednesday.
You know what you want, you wrote it down! Now, get rid of distractions and get to it. I deleted the instagram app from my phone so I can write more and focus on photography.
A friend of mine is looking to go get into grad school this year “but can’t find time to study for the GREs”. I told her to use her Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder time to study. That’s already 2 hours a week for just that.
8. BE POSITIVE
My people the law of attraction is REAL OO!!
If your mind is right, you can do anything. At the same time, if your mind is full of doubt, with time, you will lose hope and be back at square one. This is why a frientor is important. He/she will cheer you on when you are down (those moments will come) and motivate/inspire you to keep at it.
9. Be Patient
Remember that good things take time and the best things require hard work. Things will not change for the better overnight but they will change. Keep on keeping on.
8. Stay humble
By the grace of God, I am confident that 2015 will be our best year yet, in Jesus name, AMEN! Applying ourselves will only move us up in the right direction. Please, when you are at your highest of highs, remember how you got there, thank God and STAY HUMBLE! Humble yourself so that God will exault you. Pray for Humility. It was not easy to move from single to engaged, fat to skinny, no job to job-of-life, thousandaire to millionaire. So don’t rub it in people’s faces when things work out for you. God that giveth can taketh at any moment… So please stay humble!
As always, thanks for reading (if you made it through it lol).
Love Always,
The Wawa New Yorker
